Abstract

The Myrtaceae family comprises fruit-bearing plants that produce throughout the year and have significant economic and health value. One of the prominent genera in this family is Psidium (guava), widely cultivated for its rich nutritional content, including vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidant compounds. This study aims to identify the diversity of Psidium varieties and determine their distribution within the Heram District, Jayapura City. The exploratory method was employed using purposive sampling. Data were collected through field observations of plant morphology (stem, leaf, flower, and fruit), photographic documentation, and recording of geographic coordinates to generate a distribution map using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The results identified nine distinct varieties of Psidium guajava L. with varying morphological characteristics, particularly in the fruit. Psidium was widely distributed in the villages of Yabansai, Heram, Waena, and Kampung Waena, while only a few individuals were found in Kampung Yoka. These findings highlight the high biodiversity potential of Psidium in the region, suggesting further exploration for both economic and conservation purposes.
